Australian high commissioner condemns racist e-mails by officers
A racist e-mail sent by two police officers has compelled Australian High Commissioner to India Peter Varghese to issue an apology on Saturday. Apparently, two junior officers issued an e-mail that joked about the electrocution of a train passenger in India and how that might be a way to "…fix Melbourne's Indian students' problem…"
Commissioner Varghese condemned the e-mails "in the strongest possible term." He said he was also concerned about entrenched bias and noted that such e-mails were completely contrary to the values of the police community.
Commissioner Varghese explained that, as terrible as the officers' display was, their actions should not "tar the entire Victorian police."
