In London, Pope Benedict XVI met today with five survivors who were molested by priests as children. The pope apologized to the group on behalf of the church. This took place amid protests by thousands of people opposed to his visit in Central London.The pope met with the group of survivors for about 35 minutes at the Vatican's apostolic nunicature in Wimbeldon. The event was reportedly organized by the National Catholic Safeguarding Commission.
In a Vatican statement, the pope expressed his great sorrow and shame over what molestation survivors and their families have gone through.
